Large Antique Neoclassical 18th-Century Louis XVI-Directoire Giltwood and Mercury Glass Mirror
Rectangular mirror dating from the late 18th century.
The frame is carved wood with water gilding (doré à la détrempe). It features restrained moulding with ogee and flat profiles, typical of the transition between the Louis XVI and Directoire periods.
The gilding, patinated by time, reveals the red bole (Armenian bole) undercoat in many areas, adding depth and character to the piece.
It retains its original mercury mirror plate. The glass shows traces of oxidation, characterized by scattered black pitting and sparkling specks.
Structure: Good structural condition.
Frame: Wear consistent with age and use; rubbing and losses to the gilding (visible in the photos).
Glass: The plate presents oxidation spots (foxing) and hazing inherent to the mercury technique.
