A true museum piece, or the kind of item one typically admires in specialized publications or private collections. In reality, it's a section of a kilim. We will therefore refer to it as a fragment. Its prestigious origin is Malatya in southeastern Anatolia. The work of Kurdish weavers: This region is renowned and prized for the quality of its weaving. Woven by master hands, traditionally wool on wool, the weave is extremely fine and tight, sensational. The piece is supple and surprisingly lightweight. The dyes are exclusively plant-based, dense, and saturated. Their durability will last for centuries. One will appreciate, of course, the magnificent indigo blue and also the striking contrast of the white motifs, which are stylized ram's horns. Many motifs are adorned with twisted metallic threads, adding even more preciousness to this exceptional piece, which will delight collectors and lovers of refined antique textiles alike.
