Carrara marble bust representing Marie-Adélaïde-Clotilde of France, Queen of Sardinia (1759-1802), known as Clotilde of France, granddaughter of Louis XV and sister of Louis XVI, Louis XVIII and Charles X.
The original marble bust, sculpted by anonymous hands, is kept at the Palace of Versailles, purchased in 1834 by Louis-Philippe along with three other busts for the sum of 1,000 francs from Mr. Geissenhoffer, by decision of October 11, 1834 for the Historical Galleries of Versailles; entered Versailles on October 15, 1834. Mentioned in 1839, 1850 and 1881 in the Queen's Guard Room (erroneously listed in the Soulié catalogue under the name of Madame Elisabeth, sister of Louis XVI).
Displayed in the Grand Cabinet of Mrs. Adélaïde, room no. 58, since June 1965.
The model we are offering measures 78cm in height and comes from the former collection of the Château de Pangrey.
