The piece combines several decorative processes.
The plant decoration (flowers, branches, weeping willow) is made entirely of hair, using meticulous and structured workmanship.
The three portraits of family members are period photographs, integrated into the composition.
Decorative elements (dots, photo outlines, coat of arms) are executed using a technique of depositing coloured sand, now partially dusted, which allows the process to be identified.
At the bottom centre is a heraldic decoration consisting of a coat of arms held by two lions and adorned in the centre with a dove perched on a crescent moon and holding a branch. The azure background is painted. The rest is made using the stained sand technique described above.
This coat of arms can be linked to that of Jean Le Blanc, Lord of Montlebourg, or the Le Blanc de Montabonnet family, although no definitive attribution can be formally confirmed.
The whole piece is mounted on an opalescent glass plate edged with ecru braid. The plate was broken and glued back together by the previous owner.
Condition: general condition of use but fairly good considering the nature of the materials and age, with patina and deposits consistent with age. Please note: The opalescent glass plate has been broken and repaired in the past.
