Magic lantern or ball lampascope from the second half of the 19th century. Created by Auguste Lapierre, based in Paris.
This lampascope, designed to be placed on a standard oil or kerosene lamp, consists of a red and gold painted spherical body decorated with an openwork gallery at the top and bottom, a sliding optical tube with a 2.5 cm lens and a protective cap, a sliding slide holder with a 5 cm lens, a red tubular chimney adorned with a blue openwork gallery, and a counterweight acting as a reflector. The entire assembly is presented on a brass kerosene lamp by Titus.
The lampascope is completed with a set of 12 glass slides*, 6 telling the story of Tom Thumb and a series of caricatures of people/professions (6). These original plates were sold with the magic lantern. The wooden box is marked "lampascope".
Complete set, in good working order, with signs of wear (see photos). The oil lamp has not been tested. For display purposes, we have replaced the oil lamp's light source with an LED lamp (not included).
