Natsume Japanese Momiji Lacquer Tea Caddy - Japan
A matcha tea caddy, or natsume, for the tea ceremony. Made of black lacquered wood with makie lacquer decorations in gold and red, depicting momiji maple leaves, ginkgo, pine needles, and cherry blossoms. Leaves are also featured under the lid and along the rim. A hazelnut is inlaid with mother-of-pearl. For the tea ceremony, the tea master selects objects according to the season, guests, and events. This natsume is associated with autumn and was therefore used for ceremonies during this season. Artist: Kosai Nakamura, Japan, 7 x 6.5 cm. With its original box signed by the artist.
