Inro Or Small Box For Samurai
Inros originated in Japan in the 17th century, during the Edo period. They were originally used by samurai and merchants to carry small quantities of medicines, perfumes or other precious objects. Their compact size and elegant design made them practical and refined accessories. This one is no exception, except that it has really been used a lot, compared to others that are purely decorative. Incised patterns adorn all sides, this inro, single case is made of lacquered brass, we can detect traces of gold powder that once enhanced a pattern. Edo period, certainly.
