Small Antique German Porcelain Planter With Putti Design, 19th Century Meissen Style

Uncommon, beautiful small antique 19th-century glazed porcelain jardinière, circa 1860–1890. German manufacture, Saxony/Thuringia, numbered under the base in fine blue brushwork on the bisque. Another mark, illegible, is visible near one foot. These marks are typical of Saxon and Thuringian workshops of the second half of the 19th century (Sitzendorf, Volkstedt, Dresden, etc.) inspired by Meissen. Rectangular in shape, resembling a basket, it is richly decorated with putti in the round holding floral garlands of polychrome applied paste. A handcrafted piece, entirely hand-painted. Lovely pastel colors: pale pink, blue, and yellow. The floral garlands, however, are in bolder, multicolored tones. Approximately 23 cm long at its widest point and 14-15 cm deep at its deepest point, including the exterior decoration, and 11 cm high. Interior dimensions: 15.5 cm long and 8.5 cm deep at its narrowest point (opening, flared at the bottom). Overall in fair condition, though showing inevitable signs of age, including numerous chips and losses to the flowers, and a likely missing handle with a neatly filed base. The piece is quite harmonious overall, with the losses to the flowers most noticeable upon close inspection. Traces of gilding are also present on the rim, but these are not distracting. There are no cracks or chips on the body. A charming and delicate decorative piece in the 19th-century German Rococo Revival style. Approximately 1.6 kg.
