Pier Focardi "quattro Chiacchere Vicino Casa" Large Oil On Canvas, Dated 1929.

A historicized work by the Divisionist painter Pier Focardi, titled "Quattro Chiacchere Vicino Casa" (A Chat Near Home), painted in June 1929 and exhibited in 1931 at the Social Exhibition of the Camerata Artisti Combattenti d'Italia (exhibition catalog, Milan, Palazzo della Permanente, p. 87). As reported in the Sartori art dictionary, this oil on canvas measures 100 cm x 60 cm and comes from a private collection (it had been in the owner's home for at least 50 years). The painting depicts the back of the painter Pier Focardi's house in Toscolano Maderno (BS), overlooking the mountains, while the other facade looks directly onto Lake Garda. The apartment where Pier Focardi lived in 1929 is now part of the Hotel Bel Soggiorno in Toscolano Maderno. This painting can be considered a masterpiece by Focardi, due to its precise and luminous Divisionist technique. IT IS CONSIDERED ONE OF HIS MAJOR WORKS (SEE COMMANDUCCI BIOGRAPHY). Focardi lived in Toscolano Maderno from 1918 until the early 1930s, before moving to Liguria and then to the French Riviera, where he died in Cannes in 1945. A Divisionist painter, he was famous for his views of Lake Garda, hence the nickname "Painter of Lake Garda." Born in Settignano on May 21, 1889, he was introduced to art by his father, Ruggero Focardi. At the age of thirteen, he exhibited successfully at the Museum of Fine Arts in Florence. All of his numerous canvases are inspired by the life, customs, and enchanting landscapes of Lake Garda. He uses a Divisionist technique, a broad and spontaneous style, rigorously realist, figurative, and personal. He participated in exhibitions in Florence, Rome, Milan, Brescia, Paris, London, New York, Amsterdam, Brussels, Berlin, and Vienna, almost always with the Italian Divisionist Group. His major works include: "The Battle of Adua" and "The Calabro-Siculo Disaster," now in the Divisionist Military Museum in Florence; "Plants of Lake Garda," at the National Gallery of Modern Art in Rome; "Autumn Afternoon in the Upper Valtenesi," at the National Gallery of Italian Art in Lima, Peru; "The Valtenesi" and "Pasture on Lake Garda." Other notable works include "A Window on Lake Garda," "Lake Garda from Mount Pizzoccolo," and "Reflections and Reflections." "At the Aerodrome," donated to Florence and purchased by the king; the portraits of "Signora Maria Carboni" and "Mirella Bolognesi"; "Domestic Life"; "In the Countryside"; "Breakfast Time"; "The Children of Doctor Carloni"; "Joy and Solemnity in the Family"; "A Conversation Near Home"; and "The Shoemakers Studying."
