"Early 18th Century Lyonnaise Walnut Games Table "
Lyonnaise walnut games table, Regency period - 18th century. Beautiful and elegant games table in solid "wavy" walnut, designed to accommodate 4 players. This table still has its four removable candle holders, which allowed players to light their way (games were mostly played at night) or to place dice or other items. Under each drawer, on the front (4), there is a carved shell in the center, bordered on either side by a scroll. The curved uprights are adorned with a scallop shell (symbol of the Regency period) at the top and a deer's foot surmounted by an acanthus leaf at the bottom. The original tabletop was once covered with green felt. Moths most likely damaged the felt, so it has been replaced with beautiful tan leather tooled in gold, which gives this table a great deal of elegance. This table is in perfect condition, undoubtedly due to the high quality of the walnut used. It has a beautiful golden-blond patina. Dimensions of the square table: 81cm x 81cm x 74cm
