Swiss Baselard Dagger 14th-15th Century
14th-15 Century Swiss Baselard Dagger
A rare early Swiss Baselard dagger, untouched and in original state with original grips. The grips have been preserved with special resin to keep them in place and give them added strength.
The Baselard, undoubtedly have origins with the Swiss Pikeman mercenaries. They established a very proven track record during the late Middle Ages and then in the renaissance, these where the mercenary troops the Landsknecht were modelled on.
While the Baselard was an extremely popular weapon through the Middle Ages, with many variations this is likely Swiss.
The dagger follows the classic design having the curved quillons facing outwards and the pommel cap.
The blade once again is in excellent shape and shows extensive signs of use.
Truly a rarely seen set of Museum quality!
