Artist: Jean André Reiche
A table clock, "The Reader." France, first half of the 19th century, after a model by Jean André Reiche.
27.5 x 13 x 31 cm.
The gilt and chased bronze case depicts a young woman reading, seated in a finely crafted Empire armchair. The light from an oil lamp, placed on a table supported by lion's paw feet and covered with a faux drape to which the clock is attached, illuminates the scene. The dial is white enamel with Roman numerals. The marble base rests on toupie-shaped feet.
