Mahogany Barber’s Cabinet With Statuary Marble, Early 19th Century
Elegant mahogany barber’s cabinet, dating from the early 19th century, with a refined and narrow architectural form typical of functional furniture from the Neoclassical and Empire period.
The cabinet features a vertical body fitted with five drawers, each displaying attractive figured mahogany veneer and fitted with round gilt brass escutcheons. The upper section opens to reveal a rectangular rising mirror, together with two lateral opening shelves, originally designed as practical working surfaces.
The top is fitted with a fine slab of white statuary marble, both decorative and functional, creating a beautiful contrast with the warm tone of the mahogany. The piece stands on tapered legs with small casters, reflecting the elegant yet practical character of early 19th-century furniture.
The cabinet retains a pleasing antique patina, with light age-related wear and signs of use consistent with its period. A rare and decorative piece, suitable for an antique furniture collection, a refined interior, or as a distinctive statement piece.
