"Jewelry Box, Circa 1680/90, Silvered"
Jewelry box, circa 1680/90, silver-plated. This piece of furniture, both opulent and understated, was used to store silver, valuables, seals, and important documents. A rectangular box with a hinged lid, it rests on four spiral feet connected by a circular cross, each topped with a ball. The lid and sides are decorated with repoussé silver leaf. Origin: Netherlands? Very good original condition, interior relined with fabric, stand dating from the late 19th century. Dimensions: total height 84 cm, length 52 cm, depth approximately 38 cm. Materials: black-stained wood, silver. Spectrometric analysis of the metal leaf revealed the predominant presence of silver, but also copper and gold. It is possible that the base consists of a thin sheet of copper, covered with a thick layer of silver and then gilded. A certificate is issued by the gallery upon request. A magnificent object!
