Italian Chest From The Second Half Of The 17th Century

Lombard walnut chest measuring 70 x 130 x 56 cm from the second half of the 17th century.

A very special chest with solid walnut carved sides and feet and inlaid centrally with a unique and well-finished decoration.

On the arched carved front feet rests the base of the chest with absolutely sui generis dimensions with both carving and inlay decoration creating a strong chiaroscuro relief,

The front is divided into a single solid walnut area where an inlay of different light-coloured woods appears in the centre, developing horizontally in the central part and vertically on the sides. 

The overhang of the hinged top is emphasised by a notched band that continues on the sides, while the rest of the cabinet is also made of solid walnut.
