"Male Marble Bust – Roman Period"
Male Marble Bust – Roman Period. This white marble Roman male bust depicts a mature man with a realistic face. The sculpture reveals a deeply furrowed forehead, pronounced nasolabial folds, hollow cheeks, and a firm chin. The short, dense beard is finely sculpted and integrated into the volume of the face, while the deep-set eyes express a profound and lifelike gaze, typical of Roman portraits from the Republican or early Imperial periods. This may be a private portrait of a Roman citizen or notable, or perhaps a representation of a philosopher (see the Roman statue in the Louvre Museum, catalogued as Ma 5029). Mounted on a modern display base, this bust is accompanied by a certificate of authenticity. Formerly in a private London collection. Late 1st century BC or 1st century AD. 9.7 cm high.
