Biography: Timoléon Marie Lobrichon (Cornod, April 26, 1831 – 1914) was a French painter and illustrator, primarily known for his depictions of childhood. He was a student of François-Édouard Picot.
A history, portrait, and genre painter, he distinguished himself from the 1850s onward with sensitive and narrative compositions featuring children. In 1856, he created an illustrated album in landscape format, Histoire de Mr Tuberculus, recounting the adventures of a dreamy young boy. Around the same time, he contributed as a portraitist and illustrator to L'Album du Gaulois.
His works, widely disseminated as engravings by the Goupil & Cie publishing house, enjoyed great popularity. Among his best-known compositions are A Corner of the Luxembourg Garden, Tom Thumb and Maddy, and The Toy Shop Window.
Besides his scenes of children, Lobrichon also painted landscapes of the Jura and Normandy regions, as well as notable portraits, including that of Jules Michelet. He was made a Knight of the Legion of Honour in 1883. The artist lived in Elbeuf and maintained close ties with the painter Edmond-Adolphe Rudau.
