Morel: Rare 18th Century Large French Solid Silver Oval Partridge Platter Paris 1776

Artist: Jean-louis Morel
Rare oval partridge platter in solid silver from the 18th century, featuring a lined rim engraved with a coat of arms of alliance beneath a Marquis's coronet. Hallmarks include the charge and discharge marks (ox head) for Paris 1774-80, the guild mark for Paris 1776 (crowned N), and the hallmark (twice) of the master silversmith Jean-Louis Morel (crowned fleur-de-lis, two grains, his initials "JLM," and a head), admitted in 1748. He was elected Grand Warden in 1775 and Consul in 1779. This rare partridge platter is in very good condition and well hallmarked, with minor scratches from use.
