Reliquary

Paper filigree reliquary, 19th century. An important devotional reliquary made using the paper filigree technique, characteristic of 18th and 19th-century religious art. Presented in an elegant oval frame of carved and gilded wood, the piece is protected by antique convex glass. The interior composition, executed with great finesse, combines gilded paper filigree, metallic threads, pearls, and floral elements, arranged in a radiating design around a central axis symbolizing divine light. The background of antique silk, subtly patinated, enhances the richness and depth of the decoration. This type of reliquary was generally made in convent workshops, often by nuns, each piece being unique in its composition and symbolism. The quality of the workmanship, the harmony of the proportions, and the state of preservation give this piece significant historical and decorative value.
