Surprising Reliquary Frame with Ex-votos, 20th Century.
A large ecumenical frame, a beautiful testament to the early 20th century, an example to follow in our troubled times.
A rather surprising reliquary frame, it is a very beautiful bronze frame, formerly silvered, displaying a collection of various ex-votos and religious trinkets on a crimson velvet background. The bronze frame is very heavy and is symmetrically decorated with a cartouche featuring small flowers and acanthus leaves in the Regency style.
This finely crafted cartouche is repeated at the top and bottom of the frame. Regency-style angels decorate the sides of the frame at mid-height.
This beautiful, entirely bronze frame has lost some of its silvering. Inside, placed on a crimson velvet background and protected by glass, are various ex-votos: intertwined flaming hearts, a flaming heart bearing initials. gilded, an ex-voto decorated with eyes.
They are mixed with a collection of medals including a profile of Pius XII, a medal of the Virgin and Child, a medal with an Ave Maria, a small cross, a Star of David (probably gold), and a shell cameo.
These various objects are surrounded by a string of mother-of-pearl beads ending in a small mother-of-pearl cross with a Christ figure.
A chatelaine adorned with green and red glass beads is located on the left.
A pouch embroidered with silk flowers is at the bottom of the frame.
The entire composition is superb and very aesthetically pleasing.
Each ex-voto and charm is securely attached to the velvet with sewn threads.
