Marble Table Architecture: "glory Of Napoleon Consul" From A Marble Column Base 19
Artist: Non Signée
This charming red marble column, known as a Doric-style consular column, stands on a pedestal of the same marble, with a bronze base and ornaments, and a light mahogany foot. A beaded porcelain medallion depicts a three-quarter profile of Napoleon in a greenish-grey color, surrounded by a beaded bronze frame. The laurel wreath adorns the other three sides. This refined decorative piece evokes and pays homage to the rise of the young Bonaparte; it is a delicate object and a memento of that brief period of hope and national rallying behind an extraordinary man. In short, it is an ornament, a small but highly significant "curiosity," a testament to the Emperor in the making. In good condition, this well-preserved piece is a powerful symbol.
