Staffordshire Pearlware Lustre Jug With Purple Pastoral Transfer Scene, C. 1825–1840
English Staffordshire pearlware jug dating to circa 1825–1840, in baluster form with softly faceted sides, a scalloped rim and shaped foot. Decorated with a purple transfer-printed pastoral allegorical scene, enhanced with hand colouring, after French galant engraving traditions.
Finished with pink/copper lustre banding to the rim and pink-lilac overglaze enamel border details. Unmarked, as typical for early Staffordshire wares of this type.
A strong decorative piece combining period form, transfer decoration and surviving lustre highlights.
