Artist: Joseph Le Guluche ( 1849-1915 ).
Charming statue depicting a young, barefoot woman holding a mandolin. This delightful sculpture, crafted from terracotta with a waxed patina, bears the signature of Joseph Le Guluche, incised on the back of the base. A beautiful and typical example of the mass-produced sculpture phenomenon that flourished at the end of the 19th century. Joseph Le Guluche was born on September 20, 1849, in Plourivo, Côtes-d'Armor, Brittany, and died on January 24, 1915, in Villejuif, near Paris. He primarily produced popular subjects in terracotta. He worked at the L'Isle-Adam factories between 1879 and 1911. He was one of the most remarkable and prolific sculptors.
