Important Bronze Sculpture "the Stag Fight" By T. Cartier – Early 20th Century

This large bronze depicts a striking group of stags in combat, intensely capturing the power and tension of the scene. One of the stags, standing, appears to dominate the fight, its muscles taut and antlers lowered in an attacking posture. Facing it, its adversary lies on its side, head raised and mouth open, expressing both pain and resistance. The movement is frozen with such precision that one can almost feel the animals' panting breath. The bronze's patina, blending shades of bronze, brown, and green, gives the work remarkable visual depth. It accentuates the details of the coat, the edginess of the muscles, and the texture of the rocky base on which the scene rests. Thomas François Cartier (1879–1943) was a French animal sculptor, trained by Georges Gardet and Victor Peter. Specializing in depictions of big cats, dogs, and deer, he worked in bronze, terracotta, plaster, and porcelain.
