Small Bronze "pierrot", Signed L. Alliot – Early 20th Century

Artist: Alliot
A moving small bronze depicting Pierrot, the iconic character of the commedia dell'arte, portrayed in an introspective and poetic pose. Sculptor Louis Alliot captures all the melancholy and tenderness of the famous entertainer. The figure is dressed in his traditional costume: a wide, pleated ruff, puffed sleeves, and wide trousers, finely chiseled to convey the supple movement of the fabrics. With his hands clasped and his head slightly inclined towards the sky, Pierrot seems lost in thought, in a silent reverie, evoking the gentle solitude of artists. The warm bronze tone highlights the volumes and details of the modeling, particularly the folds of the costume and the peaceful expression on the face. The work rests on a textured base, discreet yet stable, which emphasizes the verticality of the figure. This small bronze, signed on the base, testifies to the Belle Époque taste for theatrical figures and subjects imbued with sensitivity. It belongs to the tradition of decorative salon sculptures, both accessible and refined, where emotion blends with technical virtuosity. Louis (Lucien) Alliot (1877–1967) was a French sculptor trained at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris under Barrias and Coutan. He exhibited regularly at the Salon des Artistes Français from 1896 onwards, where he received several awards, including a gold medal in 1920. Heir to the family workshop specializing in bronzes, he developed a diverse body of work oscillating between Art Nouveau and Art Deco. His creations, often imbued with grace and poetry, remain sought after today for the finesse of their modeling.********Period: Early 20th century. Good condition.
