Empire Period Clock – Mercury-Gilt Bronze Winged Allegory – Early 19th Century. An important Empire period clock, in finely chased and gilt bronze, depicting a seated winged female figure holding a stylus, accompanied by symbolic attributes (quiver, arrows, leafy branch), in the style of the grand allegorical compositions of the Imperial period. The circular dial with Roman numerals is framed by a rich foliate frieze. The rectangular base is adorned with a bas-relief of winged cherubs, executed with great finesse. The whole rests on molded feet. The clock is equipped with a mechanical pendulum movement, with a balance wheel suspended on a silk thread, a system characteristic of high-quality clocks from the early 19th century. The movement is antique, complete, and in working order. The mercury gilding is very beautiful and well-preserved, with a warm and even patina. Period: Empire, early 19th century.
