Lady's Secretary Desk, Marquetry Drop-front Desk, Marquetry Side Table, Louis XV Style
A charming little Louis XV style marquetry lady's secretary desk. It rests on four cabriole legs joined by a stretcher framed by an openwork brass gallery. The ends of the legs are adorned with four pretty, finely chased bronze sabots. The front of the desk opens with a drop-front decorated with a butterfly wing frieze, framed by light wood marquetry stringing. Inside, it reveals two small drawers surmounted by a large niche. The top is also decorated with a beautiful butterfly wing frieze and framed by an openwork brass gallery. This top has the unique feature of opening like a chest by means of two rear hinges. This highly original piece can serve a variety of purposes. A very fine example of late 19th/early 20th-century craftsmanship.
