A beautiful antique Japanese inrō, dating from the late 19th or early 20th century (Meiji/Taishō period). Made of carved bone, this inrō consists of two parts forming a small cylindrical container, designed to be worn suspended from the kimono sash. The main faces are decorated with an openwork and carved design depicting fish, a traditional symbol of prosperity, perseverance, and abundance in Japanese iconography. The sides feature a finely engraved decoration of aquatic plants and flowers, executed with delicacy.
