**************

Pewter bowl with handles on a console-shaped base and a flat-topped lid with a hinged ring handle in the shape of an accolade. Decorated in low relief with palmettes, fleurons, and "Bérain-style" motifs.
Control mark: crowned C / ANGERS / 1736.
Mark of François BEAUSSIER, received as a master around 1726: crowned fleur-de-lis / FB / 1735.
Length: 30.3 cm.
ANGERS, Mid-18th century.

A very beautiful and rare flat-topped model, superb in quality and condition.
The decoration of the lid is reminiscent of certain Bordeaux bowls; an influence also found in the typology of pitchers from these two centers.
History: The flat-topped lidded bowl appeared during the last third of the 17th century and began to evolve during the Regency period, later becoming more or less prominently domed. The most "rocaille" and mammillated lids came from the molds of the Bordeaux masters and in particular from the workshops of the FABREGUETTES during the second half of the 18th century and the beginning of the 19th century.
Flat-roofed models, highly prized, were manufactured until the mid-18th century.
