15th-century Chest (front) Italy
A 19th-century softwood chest with a 15th-century cedarwood front carved in low relief with two painted cartouches, adorned with figures and angels accompanying carts drawn by horses with feathered plumes. The rest of the front, also carved in low relief, depicts centaur archers, lions, and at its center a fountain (of life), all within a vegetal setting. The lock is missing. This front is a rare piece of this size and in good condition. Italy, Veneto, circa 1560. The rest of the chest is 19th century.
