Oak And Walnut Storage Bench - 18th Century

Surprising antique chest bench with both Gothic and regional inspiration.

The backrest and armrests are made of walnut. The shapes and patterns of this backrest could suggest that this woodwork comes from a church, or a chapel, hence the Gothic motifs.

The lower part with the chest is made of oak with a more regional inspiration.

We can imagine an assembly from two sets of different origins.

We nevertheless find a beautiful coherence, with similar motifs carved in the small panels, both in the lower part and the upper part. The whole could date from the 18th century, or even earlier given the quality of the wood and the Gothic style of the backrest.

The seat can be lifted to provide a generous storage space.

The backrest, meanwhile, offers a big surprise, with a sliding panel allowing you to hide a painting, an icon or why not a chest sealed in the wall. The backrest is in fact designed to be placed against a wall.
