The piece was carved from a single piece of solid pine.
The carving is both naive and delicate in its drapery, beards, hair, and mouths.
Traces of white paint in some recesses suggest it was originally painted and then stripped (probably with a heat gun, judging by the slight traces of blackened wood).
The lower section, more heavily burned, is likely the result of candlelight being too close.
Dating this piece is difficult. 18th or 19th century?
