Finely Ornamented Sideboard/counter - Cherry Wood - Late 18th Century
A low cherrywood cabinet, beautifully decorated with engravings of birds and foliage.
These birds suggest a Breton origin, more precisely from Finistère.
Delicate geometric marquetry motifs (boxwood and ebony) add a touch of charm.
Old traces indicate that an upper section (like a sideboard) once rested on the top.
A high-quality piece of craftsmanship, probably dating from the late 18th century, judging by the visible marks on the back of the doors and the back panel (panels hewn "by hand," gouge marks, "butterfly" reinforcement, saw and adze marks, etc.).
The hardware and keyhole escutcheons are also remarkable.
It served as a counter at the entrance of a small hotel in the Dordogne.
Dimensions: width = 137 cm; height = 106 cm (top) + 9 cm (corner edges). depth = 63 cm
€2400 including VAT, to be collected as is.
VAT recoverable.
