Spring. Japanese 2-panel Folding Screen. Meiji Period
In ink and natural pigments, gold leaf on paper. Mounted with a black lacquered wood frame. The screen is finely painted with scenes of courtly leisure against a sumptuous gold background. It depicts elegant figures celebrating the arrival of spring under cherry blossoms at a reception (hanami). The blue and white striped curtain (jinmaku), adorned with the Soma family crest (mon), forms a decorative boundary for the noble gathering. Period: Meiji (1868-1912). Dimensions: H174 x 178 cm.
