Exceptional Set Of Camille Tharaud Limoges With Goupy, Rapin, Jouhaud Circa 1925/1935.
Artist: Camille Tharaud (1878-1956)
I am offering this superb and rare set of Camille Tharaud porcelain from Limoges, dating from the Art Deco period (1925-1935). It comprises four pieces, sold individually or as a set as described below. The first piece is a large covered pot in the "Jocelyn" shape from 1931, decorated with the "shark teeth" motif by Camille Tharaud himself, and designed by Henri Rapin. This covered pot was exhibited at the 1931 Salon des Artistes Décorateurs (see period labels under the lid). Camille Tharaud's decoration features shades of beige, caramel, brown, and black with bluish highlights. The handle is very original; in short, a magnificent achievement resulting from the collaboration of these two great artists. Henri Rapin needs no introduction; a famous painter and decorator of the Art Deco period, he worked for Tharaud, as well as for Sèvres, upholsterers, and others. This covered pot is in very good condition and is signed by... Usual stamps, plus monograms in terracotta by the two artists. A similar model is reproduced in Jean Marc Ferrer's book published by Lucien Souny, page 66. Height: 20cm and circumference 63cm. Very good condition. Price of this covered pot alone: €490 - The second covered pot is similar in shape to the one called Orphée, created by Marcel Goupy, a very rare form. It features a magnificent geometric decoration from 1925, made of vertical duck-egg blue bands, then abstract chocolate-brown motifs, then beige and caramel bands. The lid is brown; a superb creation from around 1930/1935. A similar model is reproduced in Jean Marc Ferrer's book published by Lucien Souny, page 61. Height: 18cm and circumference 60cm. Very good condition. Price of this covered pot alone: €490 - The third piece is a superb deep bowl on a small foot. It features a sumptuous stylized figurative decoration depicting a small house in a hilly Limousin landscape, highlighted in gold. The artist used many of Tharaud's signature high-fire colors: old rose, blue, brown, green, etc. One cannot help but think of Léon Jouhaud or Pierre Parot when seeing this decoration, created around 1930/35. The piece bears the usual hallmarks and signatures, plus three dots, which are surely the decorator's signature. The piece is in very good condition. Height: 4.8 cm and 16 cm in diameter. Price of this bowl alone: €190. Or price for the set - the last piece is a flared, funnel-shaped vase. Like the Jocelyn pot, it features a "shark teeth" decoration, also created by Camille Tharaud himself, in a magnificent palette of browns, ivory, beige, blues, etc. It is therefore signed in relief with Camille Tharaud's hallmark and the usual hallmarks, around 1930. 1935/40 Vase in very good condition. Height: 14cm, diameter at the neck: 9.5cm. Price for this vase alone: €190. Price for the set of 4: €1200.
