Pretty little oil/cardboard by Ferdinand David representing pastures in summer, signed lower left + dedicated and dated on the back "to Mr. Delaisse, painter, July 19, 1916" Size of the painting alone without frame 14x18cm and It is therefore a magnificent little composition with a 19th century tendency between classicism and impressionism by Ferdinand David who paints here pastures in summer, most likely in the Lot, Lot et Garonne or Périgord; as usual his achievement is very mastered, his touch powerful and rich in material and his palette very subtle. Ferdinand David (1860-1944) Landscape painter, pastellist. He was a student of Alexandre Cabanel, then of Harpignies who influenced him more. He exhibited in Paris, at the Salon des Artistes Français, of which he was a member, honorable mention 1914. Following an official trip to Spain and Morocco, he brought back pastels and canvases that he exhibited at the Salon des Orientalistes. His canvases, evoking the landscapes of the Garonne and the hillsides of Agenais, reveal a painter sensitive to the effects and contrasts of light. He was curator of the Agen museum.
