Artist: D’après Raphaël (raffaello Sanzio)
This magnificent tapestry has undergone a thorough cleaning, hand-lined with 100% linen fabric, and meticulous inspection by our experts in our workshop. It is now ready to adorn your home. Artist: The Judgment of Paris, after Raphael (Raffaello Sanzio) Period: 17th century Condition: Excellent condition Material: Wool and Silk Width: 140cm Height: 225cm Depth: 1cm This beautiful Flemish tapestry depicts a gallant interpretation of the famous mythological episode of the Judgment of Paris. It shows Paris, a young Trojan shepherd, observing Venus, crowned with flowers and holding a golden apple, the symbol of her victory in the beauty contest between Hera and Athena. Beside her, Cupid brandishes his bow, a reminder that Venus won the judgment thanks to the promise she offered Paris: the love of the most beautiful woman in the world, Helen. The scene harmoniously blends mythological symbols with Flemish pastoral aesthetics: architecture and dense foliage in the background, refined costumes, gentle expressions, and a gallant atmosphere typical of Northern workshops in the 17th and 18th centuries. The warm palette is dominated by ochres, foliage greens, muted blues, and pinks. Some drips and variations in color are visible in the upper part. There is localized wear to the weave in light areas and around the figures. There is slight loosening of the weave, but overall stability is satisfactory for its age. The composition and colors are well preserved.
