The bronze jewel consists of an open ring, the ends of which meet and extend upwards to form a voluminous decorative element in the shape of a pear, ending as a point.
In this case, the size and robustness of the object suggest that it may have been part of horse tack (a fastening or control ring), as animals played an important symbolic and social role in historical Sahelian societies.
Fine condition. The whole piece has a remarkable patina of ancient oxidation.
Provenance: Galerie Noir d'Ivoire, Paris.
