Bronze Bracelet, Cross River, Nigeria - 16th/17th Century

This long bronze winding, forming a bracelet, was formerly used as a form of exchange or dowry.
It has a remarkable burial patina in green and ocher hues amalgamated with rare fragments of a textile with which it would have been protected.

Cross River Region, Nigeria. Presumed period: 16th - 17th century.
Provenance: Private collection, Paris. Maine Durieu Gallery, Paris.

Reproduced in the beautiful book Almost nothing, Galerie Maine Durieu, 2012, p. 39.
