Asipim Chair, Ashanti, Ghana, Africa
This ancient wooden chair with a sloping back appears to have been inspired by European models of arm chairs from the 17th and 18th centuries.
It is richly decorated with upholstery nails, cabochons, and hammered metal plates. The seat and back are made of leather.
This chair was used only by a few men in the Ashanti villages of Ghana.
Good overall condition, with some missing decorations.
