This lady is presented here in three-quarter view, dressed in classical style. The deep green background creates a beautiful color contrast with the lady's complexion.
All within a giltwood frame. In good condition, professional cleaning would revive the colors and undoubtedly breathe new life into this work.
Panel dimensions: 45 x 38 cm.
"Diana is one of the most important figures in the Greco-Roman pantheon. Goddess of the hunt, war, and the night, she lives in the woods surrounded by nymphs and rejects the advances of her many suitors. The representation of Diana has been recurrent in art since antiquity, and many high-ranking ladies identified with this goddess. From the 16th century onward, numerous paintings depicted mistresses or ladies of the court portrayed as Diana the Huntress. This fashion persisted until the 19th century, reaching its peak in the 18th century."
