Ghent 1782, Louis XVI Chocolate Maker In Solid Silver, Petrus Josephus Dupret
Artist: Petrus Josephus Dupret (°ath1733 Maître Gand 1767-1798)
A delightful Louis XVI period chocolate pot in solid silver, bearing the hallmarks of the city of Ghent. It is in perfect condition, and its four hallmarks are perfectly legible: a helmet and a crowned G for the city of Ghent, a crowned 82 for the year, and a crowned capital D for the silversmith Pierre Joseph Dupret, originally from Ath but admitted to the guild in Ghent in 1767. Uniquely, the Bijloke Museum still possesses the preparatory drawing for the coffee pot he created and crafted for his admission to the guild of master silversmiths in Ghent. It is a magnificent tripod pot with a twisted body. I have added a photograph to the file for your viewing pleasure. Pieces by this silversmith can be found in several museum collections in Ghent, Antwerp, and Brussels. It weighs 1123 grams.
