A Richly Decorated Ambrotype Photograph Of A Union
This Union case was made from a mixture of shellac and compressed sawdust, then pressed into molds. This hinged brass case is in excellent condition. It has a light brown finish. The front is beautifully cast and decorated with a relief depicting the Washington Monument at Richmond, at the center of a laurel wreath. The upper corners feature finely detailed angels, blowing trumpets and holding palm fronds. The lower corners display magnificent eagles with outstretched wings, surrounded by a multitude of flags and crests, with a patriotic emblem at the center.
The reverse has the same decoration, without the monument at the center of the wreath.
