"Netherlands - Rotterdam Circa 1740 - Solid Silver Tête-à-tête Teapot"
A solid silver tête-à-tête teapot, first half of the 18th century, Rotterdam, Netherlands. Circular in form and resting on a delicate, plain base, this teapot is distinguished by the richness and virtuosity of its decoration. It alone embodies the full skill of the master chaser: a refined interplay of scales, fluting running along the rim, and lively gadroons forming a dynamic frieze at the neck. The lid, in the same style, is surmounted by a pinecone finial, set upon a terrace of leaves and radiating gadroons, lending rhythm and elegance to the whole. The spout, particularly remarkable, takes the form of a superb stylized bird; its base is adorned with delicate rings and finely chased drapery. The elegantly curved ebony handle is set within two plain hoods, offering a restrained and refined contrast to the opulent silver decoration. Hallmarks for Rotterdam circa 1740 (date letter n), Netherlands, silversmith's initials LH. Height: 11.8 cm / 4.65 in. Length from handle to spout: 19 cm / 7.48 in. Total weight: 290 grams. This small jewel of silverware is in excellent condition (minor scratches/signs of use).
