Victor Charreton Attributed To "cagnes Morning Of December 1906"

Artist: Victor Charreton Attribué à
Attributed to Victor Charreton, oil on canvas, "Cagnes, Morning in December 1906," unsigned. A handwritten inscription on the reverse, on a stretcher bar, locates, titles, and dates the work (date to be confirmed). Advertising stamp on the back of the canvas for the Sennelier company, Quai Voltaire, Paris. French School. 46 x 55 cm. Victor Charreton (1864-1936) needs no introduction; his contribution to the Neo-Impressionist movement is increasingly recognized, and his work now graces the walls alongside the greatest paintings of the Impressionist masters. Our painting depicts a view of Cagnes-sur-Mer, with the Old Bridge of Cagnes in the foreground, before its transformation around 1910. The impasto technique, with its pronounced impasto, and the predominantly pastel palette of pinkish-orange, mauve, and turquoise, are typical of Charreton's style around 1900-1908, especially in his southern landscapes. The luminous morning atmosphere is also a hallmark of the artist, evident in the pink and turquoise gradations in the sky and the violet shadows scattered throughout the winter vegetation, as well as in the old walls of the bridge and the few houses so generously depicted. Our painting possesses all the pictorial and technical qualities necessary to confirm its attribution to Victor Charreton. Unframed. Good condition. Requires cleaning to enhance its appearance. €2800.
