18th-century Leather Wallet/document Holder, "naval Secretary" By Mr. Delongerais
Superb and rare 18th-century leather wallet or document holder. Made of black morocco leather embossed with fleur-de-lis in the corners, this gusseted document holder bears the inscription "M. DELONGERAIS, Secretary of the Navy." Jean-Baptiste Poissonnier de Longerais was a former Commissary General of the Navy, a member of the Charity Company of the Parish of St. Roch in Paris, and a member of the General Council of the Commune of Paris. The keyhole escutcheon and clasp are made of finely chased brass decorated with arabesques of shells and scrolls. A quality piece in good condition, with wear to the corners visible in the photos.
