18th Century Chancel Stool Attributed To Blanchard
Superb and rare stool from the 18th century. It stands on 4 cambered, sculpted legs decorated with foliage on the lower section and flowers on the upper section. The base is linked by curved and molded crosspieces finely carved with flowers and foliage. The architecture of the highly original backrest is reminiscent of the stern of a Galleon. Superb woodwork, assembly and carving throughout. High-quality work attributable to Sylvain-Nicolas Blanchard (1725 - circa 1770) - a seat carpenter who obtained his master's degree at the age of eighteen, on August 17, 1743. Original and technically rare seat in excellent original condition.
