Object description :

"émile Noirot "in The Lamartine Woods""
Homage to Alphonse de Lamartine. Oil on canvas "At the Lamartine Woods" signed and dated lower right E. Noirot 1902, countersigned and dated on the back of the canvas, titled and located on a stretcher bar "At the Lamartine Woods" Aix-les-Bains, Savoie. French School. 40.4 cm x 29.7 cm. Émile Noirot (1853-1924), not content with having been a student of François Louis Français (1814-1897), Charles François Daubigny (1817-1878), and Alexandre Cabanel (1823-1889), took the advice of Auguste Ravier (1814-1895) at face value, enriching himself with the best of the Lyon master. Noirot made his debut at the Salon of 1874. His sincerity, his finesse, and his use of light made him an artist who constantly gravitated towards the Impressionist movement without ever fully embracing it, much to the chagrin of art historians who would henceforth be content with the undeniable talent of Émile Noirot. In his time, the artist's success allowed him to exhibit his paintings in France and in many other countries; indeed, several national and international museums still display his work today. If the painter chose to capture a moment of light in the "Bois Lamartine," it was precisely because the famous poet (Alphonse de Lamartine, 1790-1869) had left an indelible mark there. Indeed, it was during his stay in Aix-les-Bains in October 1816 that the writer, overwhelmed by thwarted love, composed the poem "The Lake," in which the turmoil he felt was forever imbued with a universal dimension. O Time! Suspend your flight, and you, propitious hours! Suspend your course: Let us savor the fleeting delights of our most beautiful days! The luminous breakthrough amidst the raging foliage, the interlacing patterns that swirl joyfully across the canvas, the commas of pure matter unleashed in the east wind, the pale hue that shades the forest—are these not the finest tribute the painter could pay to the poet? Contemporary frame in wood and stucco decorated in the style of gilding. Good condition. 950 euros.
