"Prussian Officer's Chapka From The 1st Or 3rd Guard Uhlan Regiment, Berlin Circa 1910."
Prussian officer's chapka of the 1st or 3rd Guard Uhlan Regiment, 1895 model. Black patent leather helmet and hood, visor rim and fittings in silvered brass (silvering largely faded by time). State plate, depicting a crowned spread eagle with broad wings, holding in its talons the symbols of power, the scepter and the orb, banner spread over the eagle's wings with the motto 'MIT GOTT FÜR KOENIG UND VATERLAND', on the breast star of the Order of the Black Eagle with the Prussian motto of the Order, 'SUUM CUIQUE'. Each chin strap is composed of 16 copper scales, alternately cut with two or three scallops, decreasing in width. The scales are attached by wire staples, flattened onto a leather core lined with black sheepskin. The national cockade, worn as required after 1897, is on the right side. At the top of the headgear is a hook for attaching the officer's Fangschnur and Feldzeichen, made of silver bullion and black velvet in its center.
