"Winchester Model 1873 Musket, "spanish Model", Extremely Rare Prototype. "
This extremely rare Winchester Model 1873 musket was assembled on April 19, 1879, as a prototype for a potential contract with the Spanish government, which was never formalized. The barrel retains typical Winchester markings—two lines bearing the brand, address, and patent—as well as the model designation and serial number 337xx. According to James Gordon in *Winchester's Model of 1873: A Tribute*, Vol. II, only 84 examples of the so-called "Spanish model" were manufactured, and today fewer than ten are known to exist, preserved in museums or private collections. It is in very good condition. There are a few minor dents in the wood and some light stains. Most of the original bluing is retained on the frame and the first half of the barrel. The cleaning rod is missing. The mechanism functions well.
